Meagan Mason’s hair loss started in the 7th grade when she was diagnosed with alopecia areata, a medical condition that causes round patches of hair loss and can lead to total hair loss.
Middle school is tough enough for teen girls, but Meagan had to face it with chunks of her hair missing.
“I just wanted to fit in, and I perceived myself as not beautiful. I was very self-conscious that someone would find out and think differently of me,” she says.
With alopecia areata, Meagan’s hair fell out in chunks, but she still had most of her own hair and could usually hide the bald spots on her head. When she was diagnosed with alopecia totalis in her early 20s, she lost all of her hair.
Finding HRI of DFW, she says, changed her life.
Despite living in San Angelo, Texas, Meagan drove to Fort Worth for a consultation (and subsequent appointments) with HRI of DFW owner Shelly Beatty. After her analysis, Beatty recommended a full dermal lens.
“It has completely changed my outlook on hair loss,” says Meagan, who is now 25 years old and recently got married. “I have never felt more beautiful,” she says of her wedding day.
She also credits her dermal lens hair loss solution with a newfound attitude. “I am so much more confident and able to live my life as other 25 year olds.”
Since finding confidence in herself again, Meagan has been inspired to help others and share her story. “With HRI, hair loss is not a dead end but a new beginning.”
Having more confidence has affected Meagan’s career too. She is a supervisor for an electricity company, leading a team of 15.
“Looking back, if you had asked me if I would have had the confidence to live my life as I do now, I would have told you ‘no.’ But thanks to HRI’s wonderful program, I have been able to find my confidence and my voice. If I could share one thing with others, it would be: don’t let hair loss define you. Because you are stronger than you think and you can still be beautiful. I am very grateful for such an amazing company that is filled with employees who are excited to help you find your confidence again. Every time I visit, I’m not there for an appointment — I’m visiting my family.”
